100 years of TBO

The Toy Museum of Catalonia is commemorating the 100th anniversary of the children’s comic TBO with an exhibition that gathers the two hundred best original sketches in the collection at the Museum’s Documentation Centre. This collection includes original storyboards dating from the 1920s to the 1950s by well-known cartoonists such as Arnal, Ayné, Benejam, Bernet Toledano, Bech, Blanco, Boix, Castanys, Cesc, Coll, Donaz, Escobar, Albert Mestre, Salvador Mestres, Moreno, Muntañola, Nit, Opisso, Sabatés, Serra Massana, Tínez, Tur and Urda, who created much-loved famous characters such as Melitón Pérez, Eustaquio Morcillón and his assistant Babalí, the Ulises Family, Professor Franz de Copenhague, Altamiro de la Cueva and Josechu “The Basque”.

In 2002, the Documentation Centre’s collection of original TBO storyboards was widened thanks to the Figueres-based companies Jesús Costa Nicolau S.L., Indústries Oliveres S.L. and Instal·lacions Josep Capel, who covered the acquisition costs of new original sketches, the best of which are included in this exhibition.
