Josep Palau i Fabre

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Josep Palau i Fabre, who was a poet, essayist, narrator, playwright and translator in addition to being one of the top authorities on the work of Pablo Picasso.

Josep Palau i Fabre was a great friend of the Toy Museum of Catalonia, to which he gifted his most prized childhood toy, Ciril·lo, in addition to photographs and other pieces. This pull-along toy was designed and made by his father, the artist and designer Josep Palau i Oller, in 1917, the year his son was born. Therefore, this pull-along toy is 100 years old this year, and it is an excellent example of the items produced by Palau Oller starting in 1917 (a year before Joaquim Torres García began production) and which so excited the poet Joan Salvat-Papasseit. The Palau Oller toys are characterised by their painstakingly accurate design, which is still valid today, and their outstanding quality. In this exhibition, the toy is displayed along with a selection of some of the original designs in its catalogue.
